Kamchatka pouring in excess of USD100 million into onshore fish processing

In the last few years Kamchatka-based fishery businesses have invested more than USD100 million into land-based processing of wild salmon and other species harvested in the area, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to the region's government.

The fishermen have built 8 modern factories and further funds have been spent for renewal of fishing and transport fleet.

However the capacity is still insufficient to take peak loads during the salmon season and to capitalize on the emerging business opportunities one more plant worth some USD40 million is nearing completion in the Ust-Bolsheretsk District.

It is claimed that this factory will be one of the largest state-of-the art wild salmon processors in the world.

Thanks to the above developments the daily capacity of land-based factories in Kamchatka has doubled from 3000 tonnes per day in 2010 up to 6000 metric tons per day in 2012 (11 000 tonnes if at sea capacities are added).
