GOOD HAULS FOR LUNDEY
Lundey NS was due to dock at Vopnafjördur earlier today with around 1000 tonnes of capelin on board. According to skipper Arnthór Hjörleifsson, fishing has been slow since they sailed in the New year, but picked up this last weekend.
‘We had two 350 tonne hauls at the weekend. The first one was a long tow, but the second time we only towed for four or five hours,’ he said, commenting that the capelin are good-sized fish with little feed in them.
‘This is better quality than we had in the previous trip and the samples tell us that we’re getting around 45 pieces per kilo.’
Lundey didn’t have far to go to Vopnafjördur when we spoke to Arnthór Hjörleifsson. The weather was fine, but is expected to worsen significantly later in the day as the storm travels eastwards.
According to HB Grandi’s pelagic fleet manager Ingimundur Ingimundarson, Faxi RE is alongside at Vopnafjördur and Ingunn AK is finishing the last haul of its present trip.
