Catch and quota progress in Northeast/Northwest Atlantic and Central East Atlantic to December 2020

In December 2020 few Russian trawlers were targeting various species at East and West Greenland, NAFO regulatory area and in the Mauritanian EEZ, reports Megafishnet.com.

According to Fishnet.ru, on 10-16 December 2021 as well as on 30-31 December TSM Oma trawler coming from Murmansk-led North Fisheries was targeting gurnard and haddock near Rockall and she reported a total catch of 136 tonnes, of which gurnard made up ca.90% and haddock – 10%.

Redfish

On 23 December 2020 Murmansk-based Novaya zemlya trawler resumed the dedicated fishery for redfish in the Northwest Atlantic (NAFO regulatory area). By the end of the year she harvested ca.150 tonnes of redfish (90%). The total redfish catch from the beginning of the year 2020 amounted to 4999 tonnes out of the Russian quota of 5,207 tonnes.

Mauritania

In Mauritania EEZ, two trawlers from Kaliningrad and two trawlers from the Russian Far East were engaged in the pelagic trawl fishery. On 21 December 2020 they were joined by RTMKSm Alexander Mironenko coming from the North Fisheries. The fishing situation remained uneven with a certain improvement mostly for the Far Eastern vessels harvesting mainly horse mackerel.

The Russian catches in the Mauritanian waters in December amounted to 5,000 tonnes (+1,700 tonnes), of which mackerel accounted for 9%, sardine – 12%, horse mackerel – 48% and bycatch of other fish species - 31%.

Russia’s total catch in the Mauritanian EEZ from the beginning of the year amounted to 74,300 tonnes, up from 60,700 tonnes in 2019.
