Catch and quota progress in Northeast/Northwest Atlantic and Central East Atlantic in March 2021
In April 2021 a few Russian trawlers were targeting various species at East and West Greenland, NAFO regulatory area and in the Mauritanian EEZ, reports Megafishnet.com.
Irminger Sea
On 25 April 2021 BMRTIB Iosif Shmelkin owned by Maritime Star from Kaliningrad began harvesting redfish in the Irminger Sea. During the remaining days of the month two more vessels from Kaliningrad and two from Murmansk joined the first trawler on the grounds. Their total catch through 5 days in April amounted to ca.300 tonnes of redfish (1.1% of the quota of 24,900 tonnes).
Northwest Atlantic (NAFO Regulatory Area)
According to Fishnet.ru, two trawlers coming from Murmansk-led North Fisheries were operating in the NAFO Regulatory Area. Halibut was the main commercial species in the subzone 3LN, while one vessel was targeting redfish in the subzone 3O during several days. Their total catch through the month amounted to 397 tonnes (-361MT), of which halibut made up 90%, redfish – 9%, other species – 1%.
Mauritania
In the Mauritanian EEZ, two trawlers of Kaliningrad-based Westrybflot, two from Russia’s North Fisheries and three from Murmansk-led North Fisheries were engaged in the pelagic trawl fishery. The fishery situation in the course of the month remained weak.
The Russian catches in the Mauritanian waters in March 2021 amounted to 5,500 tonnes (+1,900 tonnes YOY), of which horse mackerel accounted for 49%, sardine – 27%, mackerel – 4% and bycatch of other fish species - 20%.
During the first four months of the year 2021 the Russian fleets harvested 17,000 tonnes of fish, last year the respective result was 20,000 tonnes.
Southeast Pacific
RTMKS Admiral Shabalin owned by Murmansk-based PAO MTF continued spotting for fishable concentrations. Her catches in April were practically zero.
