Fisheries certification discussed in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk the problem of certification of fisheries in Sakhalin were discussed in the end of May 2008, according to reports from the area.

Such a question was on the agenda of the meeting between representatives of fishing companies of the region, Department of fisheries of Youzhno-Sakhalinsk, SakhNIRO, Sakhrybvod, Association of fishermen of Sakhalin, the Centre of Wild Salmon and Sakhalin Salmon Initiative and certifying companies.

The certification will give the fishermen an independent evaluation of their fisheries and will indicate ways of their improvement.

The certification of the fishing companies gives them the right to keep their fishing sites thus contributing to sustainable development.

Such a meeting in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk organized in the form of round-table discussion took place for the first time.
