FISH FOR LIFE PROGRAMME IS EUROPEAN FINALIST IN MAJOR ENVIRONMENTAL AWARDS

On 12 March the jury of the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE) named the Young's/Findus Group Fish for Life programme as one of its ten international finalists. Fish for Life was the only British entry to reach the finals of the EBAE out of the eleven winners of the UK stage of the awards who were named in London earlier this month, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Young's Seafood.

Mark Escolme, managing director of Young's and Findus UK said, "Of course we are absolutely delighted that Fish for Life has now been named amongst the best environmental initiatives not just from the UK but across Europe. As well as providing reassurance for consumers that all our fish has been responsibly sourced, Fish for Life also represents our wider commitment to help drive long term improvement in sustainable fisheries."

Ten European companies make up the shortlist, representing companies from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, Turkey and the UK. The EBAE prizes are awarded by the European Commission every two years - identifying European companies that have made outstanding contributions to sustainable development in four categories - management, products, processes, and international cooperation.

"Preserving the environment makes enormous economic, social and business sense" said Janez Potocnik, European Commissioner for the Environment. "These Awards recognise the most far-sighted, responsible and eco-innovative companies in Europe and play a major role in identifying and promoting best practices. EBAE winners are the best of the best."

The winners in each category will be announced and receive their awards at a ceremony in the Bibliothèque Solvay, Brussels, on 2 June 2010, during Green Week, the Commission's annual environment conference.
