Farmed fish output in Leningrad Oblast in 2006
The output of market-size fish farmed in Leningrad Oblast surrounding Saint Petersburg in 2006 amounted to 2010 tonnes making 121% of the corresponding result in 2005. Through the first quarter 2007 the province's farmers produced 317 tonnes of cultured fish.
According to media reports, the above figures were made public at the aquaculture meeting of the province's government.
Last year 21 companies out of 26 registered fish farms were engaged in farming fish to market size. At present, the level of profitability in fish farming reaches 30%.
By the year 2010 the output of market-size fish farmed in Leningrad Oblast is forecasted to grow to 5000 tonnes.
