Export business consolidation creating new outlook for Russian salmon and trout market

September 28, 2006 16:13

In the nearest future many Norwegian farms will have to continue reducing their salmon and trout exports to Russia with the business to be handled by eight approved suppliers, purchasing manager of Saint Petersburg based JSC ZAO Orghimecology Ms. Tatiana Kuzmina told RFR.

The thing is that in the middle of September the importers learnt about a letter of Rosselkhoznadzor Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service saying that as of 1 October current import of both chilled and frozen salmon and trout to Russia is allowed only for eight Norwegian plants. As a result, the prices for these products on the Russian market area set to rise, Kuzmina predicted.

The company is exhibiting at the World Food Moscow show on 26-29 September 2006 and it is expected that the impact of the new supply situation onto the salmon and trout prices will become manifest during the event attended by all the largest Norwegian fish producers engaged in export to Russia.
