Eastern Fisheries Dives Into Scallop Farming Operations

May 6, 2011 12:22

Eastern Fisheries Inc., the world's largest scallop company, has finalized agreements to operate a scallop farm off the coast of Zhuanghe, China. Eastern will begin cultivating bay scallops in June with plans to expand their operations for the production of larger sea scallops. Eastern's wholly owned subsidiary in China, Dalian Far Eastern Shores, will oversee the day-to-day management, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to Eastern Fisheries.

"We have been doing business in China for awhile now and feel this is the right time for us to enter into aquaculture. This venture is in line with Eastern's commitment to quality, sustainability and accountability which, through our vertical integration, our customers have come to expect," stated Executive Vice President Joe Furtado.

The farmed scallops will complement Eastern's wild caught products and over time will allow Eastern to decrease their third party purchases of farmed Asian scallops.
