Continued growth in seafood exports

Seafood exports in August totalled NOK 3.7 billion, an increase of NOK 667 million compared to August 2009. For the year to date, the total value of exports of Norwegian seafood stands at NOK 31.6 billion. This is no less than NOK 4.7 billion up on the same month last year, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to NSEC.

"We are continuing to see growth in seafood exports, despite the current turbulent state of the world economy," says director of market information Egil Ove Sundheim from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. "We are seeing an increased willingness on the part of more markets to pay for Norwegian seafood. People are buying more Norwegian Salmon at higher prices and the market is enjoying growth. This shows that Norwegian Salmon as a product has not been affected by the economic crisis."   
Increase in Norwegian Salmon exports

The value of exports of Norwegian Salmon in August totalled NOK 2.5 billion. This is an increase of NOK 606 million or 32% compared to August last year. This year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian Salmon totals NOK 19 billion, which is already more than the total for the whole of 2008. The value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout fell in August by NOK 37 million to a total of NOK 113 million. For the year to date, exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout total NOK 935 million in value, down by NOK 342 million compared to the same period last year.
Growth in herring and mackerel exports in August

In August, exports of herring increased in value by NOK 11 million from August 2009 to a total value of NOK 78 million. For the year to date, the value of herring exports totals NOK 2.1 billion, down by NOK 181 million compared to the same period last year. Exports of mackerel were up in value by a notable 122% to a total of NOK 86 million. This year to date, the value of mackerel exports totals NOK 593 million, down by NOK 119 million or 17% compared to the same period last year.

The biggest importer of herring from Norway in August was Germany, followed by Russia and Belarus. For the year to date, Russia is the biggest importer with Germany in second place. The biggest importers of mackerel from Norway in August were Japan and Turkey. For the year to date, the biggest importers are Russia and Turkey.
Exports of Norwegian Cod stockfish from Lofoten up in August

In August, exports of Norwegian Cod stockfish from Lofoten were up in value by almost 47% to NOK 38 million. The volume of exports increased by 48% to a total of 311 tonnes. The average price in August was NOK 122 per kg. For the year to date, the volume of exports of Norwegian Cod stockfish from Lofoten totalled 1,801 tonnes, a decrease of 4% compared to the same period last year.
Exports of salted Norwegian Cod down in August

The value of exports of salted Norwegian Cod fell in August by 53% to NOK 26 million. However, for the year to date the value of exports is up by 44% to a total of NOK 617 million. The average price of salted Norwegian cod in 2010 currently stands at NOK 27.70, down by 4% compared to 2009.
