Vladmorrybport OAO (plc), a marine fish port in Vladivostok, Russia, has started construction of a new coldstore complex with up to 40,000-tonnes capacity, according to the company.

As per early February 2019 the company completed design and prepared a foundation pit for the new facilities. In spring 2019 the port will start construction of the coldstore proper which is to take about two years. This will be the first coldstore complex to be furnished with the most up-to-date equipment to hold up to 40,000 metric tons of products at any one time. Equipped in compliance with the European standards, the complex’s fish exchange and electronic exchange will send reefer containers of any class for export to the EU directly from the port. According to the schedule, the project will take off in 2021.

Commissioning the new coldstore complex is supposed to raise the port’s annual handling capacity to 500,000 tonnes of fish products.

In his recent visit to the port head of Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries Ilya Shestakov underlined a positive dynamics in the nation’s fish processing sector. The year 2018 has turned to be record-strong in catch volumes in the Far East Fishery Basin, therefore the region’s port infrastructure has to be adapted to growing turnover in order to compete with ports of South Korea, China and Japan.
