Second crabber laid for Russia’s biggest crab quota holder
On December 1, 2020, the keel was laid for the second crabber of a series of seven boats ordered by the Russian Crab Company, reports Megafishnet.com.
The contract was awarded to the Onego Ship Yard based in Petrozavodsk, Karelia province, in Russia’s Northwest.
According to the shipbuilders, the crabber is a part of 5712LS design series with seven vessels in total within the program. The design was developed by Damen Engineering company (St. Petersburg) in cooperation with Russian Crab Company’s specialists to enable the boat both harvest crabs and transports live catch.
Crabber fleet renewal is carried out to meet the conditions of the quota auctions held in 2019 where the Russian Crab Company acquired 10 lots of crab quota shares valid for 15 years. As a result, RCC holds 19% of the sector’s total crab fishing rights.
