Akurey launch set for August

Work on the three new fresher trawlers for HB Grandi is making steady progress at the Celiktrans yard in Turkey now that Ramadan is over. Engey is due to be delivered before the end of the year, Akurey is scheduled to be launched next month and construction is in progress on the blocks for Viðey, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to the company.

According to Thórarinn Sigurbjörnsson, HB Grandi’s marine superintendent overseeing the construction at the Celiktrans yard, there is no firm date as yet for Engey’s delivery. But engine and equipment trials will take place shortly and the first of the gensets is expected to be run for the first time on Monday. Engey was launched in March.

The entire construction of the three trawlers takes place at Celiktrans, and when pelagic vessels Venus and Víkingur were built, the final fitting out was done at another yard that Celiktans owns and operates.

According to HB Grandi’s contract with the Turkish yard, Engey is to be delivered later this year. Akurey is to follow in the spring and the last of the three, Viðey, will be delivered in the autumn of 2017.

The trawlers are all 54.75 metres overall with a 13.50 metre beam. Main engines are MAN 6L27/38 units designed to deliver 1790kW at 800rpm. Reduction gearboxes are from Reintjes and each has a PTO for the shaft generator. The 3800mm diameter propellers are from MAN. The main engines are fitted with scrubbing technology from SCR Catalysator. Each trawler has two D2840 LE 301 gensets. Each winch is 443kW. The winch system is electric and supplied by Naust Marine. The 300kW bow thrusters are from Brunvoll.

The catch handling deck and fishroom facilities will be produced by Skaginn 3X and will be fitted as each trawler arrives in Iceland. The trawlers are designed by naval architect Alfreð Tulinius at Nautic ehf.
