Colbecks help MSC get the sustainability message out

February 21, 2011 09:23

This weekend, fish and chip shop owners from around the country will gather in Newcastle for Henry Colbeck Ltd's ‘What's Cooking 2011' trade show. This year, for the first time, the Marine Stewardship Council will be joining Colbecks with a stand to promote Colbecks' MSC certified sustainable seafood choices, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to MSC.

Hannah Arcaro, UK Foodservice Manager for the MSC, explains: "Colbecks have really taken the sustainable seafood message to heart. They've already sent out copies of the MSC training film to all of their customers and are the first major fish and chip sector distributor to offer MSC certified hake. It's proved really popular in some of the country's leading fish and chip shops and I hope that - by joining them for the trade fair - we can convince some more fish and chip shops to take that big step and prove their sustainability credentials with MSC certified fish."
Making a difference

Overfishing is a global challenge. Over a quarter of the world's fish stocks are overfished or depleted and half are being fished as hard as they can be. By choosing fish from certified sustainable sources, fish and chip shops and their customers can help to drive change in the way we fish the oceans.
