In mid-May 2007 the Sakhalin Fishery Council met to allocate chum salmon quotas for the season 2007.

According to the council's decision, this year chum salmon will be harvested by 21 companies in the West Sakhalin subarea, 12 in East Sakhalin, 23 in the South Kurile zone, 5 in the North Kurile zone and 4 companies in the Kamchatka Kurile subarea. The total quota of chum salmon has been set at 17,409.6 metric tons.

The largest quota of 3540 tonnes has been allocated to JSC ZAO Kurilsky Rybak, while 2700 tonnes can be harvested by Kholmsk-based Dorimp and a little more than 2500 tonnes can be harvested by Korsakov-based OOO Salmon (ltd).

Besides, a 100-tonne quota of Dorimp will be handed over to OOO Nerest (ltd) under the agreement between those companies.

According to SakhNIRO research institute, salmon runs to Sakhalin and Kuriles are forecasted to start around 10 July. The Russian veterinary and phytosanitary service Rosselkhoznadzor is issuing fishing permits for those companies operating in the southwest of the West Sakhalin subarea as of mid-May 2007.
