Chinese tilapia export to Russia surging
In 2007 Russia emerged as a key buyer of Chinese tilapia. Thus, in 2007 the export to the Russian Federation amounted to 19 000 tonnes and this is almost four times the 2006 figure, according to Globefish.
It is interesting to note that increase of import of tilapia from China into Russia is paralleled with record imports of pangasius from Viet Nam.
Due to the dramatic situation in China, tilapia prices are likely to increase sharply.
