Catch Quota Pilot Project with Remote Electronic Monitoring System: North Sea

April 6, 2010 10:46

This is a voluntary participation project open to English registered fishing vessels of 10m LOA and over who are members of a PO and actively fishing in the North Sea demersal fisheries, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (CEFAS).

The purpose of this project is to determine the effectiveness of using Catch Quota rather than Landings Quota to manage stocks and reduce discards and mortality. Fishers will be responsible for recording all of their catches and Remote Electronic Monitoring systems (REMs) will be used to verify this data and to investigate the effectiveness of this technology in recording catches.
