Capelin production started up at HB Grandi's Vopnafjördur plant
Capelin production started up at HB Grandi's Vopnafjördur plant late last Tuesday night when Faxi RE docked with around 1400 tonnes of capelin on board. The capelin were graded, with the male fish sent for freezing for the Eastern European market, while the female fish were processed for roe extraction, with the roe frozen for Japanese customers, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to HB Grandi.
Plant manager Magnús Róbertsson said that this landing was a welcome one. There has been no pelagic production at Vopnafjördur since September last year when the last landings of Atlanto-Scandian herring were delivered.
‘Now we're hoping that the capelin fishing goes well and that we get a few more landings here. Or if there aren't any direct landings, then we can take deliveries overland by truck.'
