Best Norwegian salmon export figures ever
In the first half-year of 2010, exports of Norwegian Salmon increased by NOK 3.3 billion to NOK 13.9 billion compared to the same period last year. This is an impressive 31% increase and sets a new record for the value of Norwegian Salmon exports in a first half-year period, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to NSEC.
"The growth in exports of Norwegian Salmon is attributable to an increase in both volume and price as the result of strong global demand for salmon and reduced competition," explains Paul Aandahl, market analyst from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council.
A Norwegian Salmon export record was also set for the month of June, when the value of exports increased by NOK 793 million or 39% to NOK 2.8 billion.
"Farming of Norwegian Salmon and measures to combat salmon lice have received much media attention in Norway in 2010," comments Christian Chramer, director of information with the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. "In the international media, with the exception of a French TV documentary, these issues have attracted very little attention outside Norway. We take the criticisms that have been made extremely seriously, but to date there has been no negative impact on buying patterns or preference for Norwegian Salmon."
High prices per kg
The average export price for fresh whole Norwegian Salmon in the first half-year of 2010 was NOK 36.15, up by NOK 4.44 compared to the same period last year. In June, the average price was NOK 38.53, up by NOK 3.24 compared to June last year. The biggest export markets for fresh whole Norwegian Salmon continue to be France and Poland. Exports of fresh whole Norwegian Salmon to France in the first half-year totalled NOK 1.6 billion, an increase of 9% compared to the same period last year. Exports of fresh whole Norwegian Salmon to Poland increased by 25% to NOK 1.3 billion in the same period.
Growth in exports of Norwegian Salmon fillets
The value of exports of fresh Norwegian Salmon fillets in the first half-year grew by 55.5% to NOK 1.8 billion and exports of frozen Norwegian Salmon fillets grew by 43.5% to NOK 1 billion.
In June, the export price of fresh Norwegian Salmon fillets was NOK 58.92, an increase of NOK 9.64, and the export price of frozen Norwegian Salmon fillets was NOK 68.55, up by NOK 3.62. Compared to the same month last year, the value of exports of fresh fillets was up by 62% to NOK 364 million and the value of exports of frozen fillets increased by 43% to NOK 197 million.
Strong growth in exports to Russia
In the first half-year, the value of exports of Norwegian Salmon to Russia totalled NOK 1.2 billion. This is an increase of 60% compared to the same period last year. The volume of exports increased to 36,218 tonnes, an increase of 39%. In June, the value of exports increased by NOK 119 million or 82%, making Russia the second biggest export market for Norwegian Salmon.
Growth in exports of fillets to the USA
The value of exports of Norwegian Salmon to the USA in the first half-year increased by a massive 104% to a total value of NOK 1.1 billion. In June, the value of exports was up by 135% compared to the same month last year. The strong growth in exports to the USA is attributable to exports of Norwegian Salmon fillets. The value of exports of fresh Norwegian Salmon fillets to the USA in the first half-year increased by 101% to NOK 722 million and the value of exports of frozen Norwegian Salmon fillets increased by 138% to NOK 306 million.
Decline in exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout
Exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout in the first half-year fell by 22% to NOK 736 million compared to the same period last year. The biggest export market for Norwegian Fjord Trout was Russia, where exports were down by 6,938 tonnes or 41.6%.
In June, the total value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout was down by 28% to NOK 120 million. In the same period, the volume of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout to Russia fell by 50%.
