BAP Pangasius Standards Approved

September 13, 2010 09:11

The Global Aquaculture Alliance board of directors and the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Standards Oversight Committee (SOC) have approved the Pangasius farm standards, which are now available in PDF format here, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to GAP.

The approval followed a July trip to Vietnam by SOC Chairman George Chamberlain during which he met with Pangasius Farm Committee Chairman Philippe Serene and other knowledgeable academic, government and industry sources to assure that SOC concerns about sludge management, diver safety and effluent water quality were addressed.

BAP Pangasius farm certification requires that sludge be pumped into sedimentation ponds rather than directly into rivers, and safety plans must direct the activities of divers.
