Argentinean squid producers pinning hopes on Russia

A Delegation of Argentinean Squid Producers is taking part in Moscow’s World Food show on 26-29 September 2006 in order to find new customers in a situation of glut on other traditional markets.

This year squid catches in the country have been quite good and there is a considerable oversupply of squid from Argentina. In fact, squid is evidently the only marine species which has been harvested during its whole fishing season this year with the catch rates being fairly high. The vessels, which earlier have been targeting hake, hoki and other whitefish species, are now landing squid to aggravate the market bottleneck.
