Trout selection and breeding center nearing completion in Karelia
The construction of a selection and breeding center in Karelia (province in Russia’s Northwest) has passed the building site’s preparation phase and it is now set for completion in 2021, reports Megafishnet.com.
According to the Karelia government, the Center is being built on the basis of the existing Vygsky fish hatchery producing Atlantic salmon and whitefish juveniles for restocking.
Upon completion this year the selection and breeding center will specialize in trout breeding, providing fish farms with eyed eggs and fry to help overcome the excessive reliance on imported material.
The project "Construction of a selection and breeding center for fish farming in the Republic of Karelia" is part of the " Fisheries Complex Development” program of the Russian Federation.
