Russian Aquaculture surging in line with Strategy 2030

According to a report by the Russian fishery head Ilya Shestakov, the nation’s aquaculture has made another big leap to meet the targets set for the sector in the Fishery Complex Development Strategy 2030, reports Megafishnet.com.

The report, in particular, noted that Russia’s commercial aquaculture production in 2020 amounted to 328.6 thousand tons, growing by15% versus 2019 and by 60% as compared to 2016.

In terms of new areas, last year more than 4.5 thousand new aquaculture sites exceeding 550 thousand hectares were provided for use by the fish farmers.

Salmonids

The action plan for the implementation of the Strategy provides for the construction of 20 salmon and trout hatcheries under the "Salmon farming" integrated project.

"The main goal of this project is to increase the commercial production of salmonids up to at least 100 thousand tons per year to meet the domestic demand, as well as to create export potential," Ilya Shestakov said.

Bivalves

The "Valuable Seafood" project is aimed at growing the most valuable bivalves, which also have a high export potential.

Along these lines, in the waters of the Russian Far East, the marine culture production increased from 6.95 thousand tons in 2016 to 49.2 thousand tons in 2020.

The marine culture output in the Crimea jumped from 1.6 thousand tons in 2016 to 4.79 thousand tons in 2020.
