Eretik Island to become centre for aquaculture development in Murmansk

So far little known Eretik Island in the village of Ura-Guba, Cola Peninsula, may soon become one of the centres for aquaculture development in Murmansk region. In its waters farmers are ready to install cages for Atlantic salmon culture, smolt is coming soon, reports http://www.megafishnet.com/ with reference to Murmansk Vestnik.

Stocking material, namely 1.2 million Atlantic salmon smolt, is expected to arrive at the farm Russian Sea-Aquaculture (ltd) and undisclosed Norwegian partners. In April 2012 the same vessel brought 12 cages to the farm.

Russian Sea-Aquaculture has come to the Cola Peninsula but recently and immediately announced itself as a serious investor willing to get strongly engaged into commodity farming in the area. It has won tenders for nearly twenty fishing sites on the coast of the Barents and White Seas.

According to the production plan, nine sites located in the Barents Sea will bring Russian Sea-Aquaculture up to 30,000 MT of farmed salmon. In the next five years Russian Sea-Aquaculture is planning to invest RUR 6 billion into its fish farming operations in Murmansk and Karelia (where it has trout interests).
