Ecological certification of aquaculture products may be launched in Russia
Russia’s Federal Agency for Fishery is scrutinizing ecological certification of aquaculture products. Details are undisclosed, but for the fact that it will touch not only domestic products, but imported as well.
As of 2019 farmed fish production in Russia is expected to rise by 5-10% year-on-year. In 2018 the output of cultured fish grew by 5.6% to 232,000 tonnes. In 2019 the output is forecasted at ca.245,000 tonnes, again 5.6% up on 2018. Karelia’s is Russia’s main aquaculture region with the share of 85-90% of the total production output. In terms of volume, in 2019 Karelian farms are expected to harvest ca.30,000 tonnes of commodity trout, 11.1% up on 27,000 tonnes last year.
The draft strategy of the Russian fishery industry development stipulates for raising the annual production of farmed fish nearly three-fold to 600,000 tonnes by 2030.
