Russia’s updated Draft Strategy 2030 for Development of Fishery Economy Complex is seeking to overcome the raw material domination of the nation’s seafood exports in favour of value-added products, according to Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries.
In the first nine months of the current year 2018 Russia’s seafood market has been showing positive trends including rising output of fish fillets and mince and increasing seafood exports. Those trends have been developing against the background of decreasing imports of seafood, according to Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries (FAF).
Russia’s Federal Agency for Fisheries (FAF) has conducted a special conference to brief the industry players on the facilities provided by the government to help boost exportation of processed seafood, according to FAF.
The overall catch of Icelandic vessels in September was 108 thousand tonnes, a 14% decrease from September 2017. Demersal catch was just over 35 thousand tonnes, 7% more than in the same month last year. Pelagic catch was 69 thousand tonnes and declined by 23%. Pelagic catch consisted mostly of mackerel, 54 thousand tonnes.

Production has been going well at HB Grandi’s pelagic plant in Vopnafjörður this summer and the end of this year’s quota is in sight. According to HB Grandi’s Vopnafjörður factory manager Magnús Róbertsson, the mackerel have been large, good quality fish with an average weight over the summer of 450 to 470 grammes.

HB Grandi hf has agreed to buy the entire shareholding in fishing company Ögurvík ehf from Brim hf. The purchase price is around ISK12.30 billion (€95 million) and a correction is expected to be applied to this once the results of the company’s financial performance to 31st August 2018 is available, reports www.megafishnet.com with reference to the company.

HB Grandi’s freezer trawler Höfrungur III is now back fishing off the Westfords after breaking its trip for a half-landing in Reykjavík at the beginning of the week. According to skipper Haraldur Árnason, there has been good fishing all summer, although each trip is managed on the basis of which species are most economic to catch.
Pelagic vessel Venus is now in port at Vopnafjörður, having docked earlier this week with 600 tonnes of mackerel on board for production at HB Grandi’s pelagic processing plant. This is all good quality, large fish with an average size of 420-44 grammes.
